Sezen Kayhan ist seit April 2022 wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Institut für Film-, Theater-, Medien- und Kulturwissenschaft der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. 2020 promovierte sie gemeinsam an der Universität Antwerpen und der Koç-Universität mit einer Dissertation über Screen Production und urbane Transformation in Istanbul. Zuvor studierte sie Archäologie und Kunstgeschichte (BA, Bilkent)  sowie Film und TV (MA, Bahçeşehir). Beruflich war sie in der Produktion von Spielfilmen, Fernsehserien  und Dokumentarfilmen in der Türkei, Italien, den USA und Deutschland tätig. Kayhan ist Autorin  zweier Bücher, veröffentlichte in internationalen Fachzeitschriften und leitet partizipative Filmworkshops inEuropa. Ihre preisgekrönten Kurzfilme liefen bei Festivals wie Tribeca, BFI London, Montreal World und Palm Springs, während ihre künstlerischen Arbeiten in  bedeutenden Museen gezeigt wurden.
