Inhalt
In this course, we will first question and examine the practice of streaming as well as the cultural formations and interactions it motivates. Through interrogating the transnational aesthetics mediated at subscription platforms like Netflix or Amazon Prime and the routines of binge-watching, and through analyzing the participatory culture of Youtube, wikis, and Tiktok we will theoretically analyze and deconstruct these venues. While focusing on specific case studies the questions we will raise and discuss will include: how does streaming culture change and influence film and television aesthetics? How does it invigorate counter-narratives or how do they maintain authoritarian hegemonies? How does spectatorship influence the content of streaming platforms? In what ways does interaction through or with streamed works create fandom, followers, or communities? What is its impact on our bodily experience or embodied presence? What does it mean to become a Prime streamer (as in Amazon Prime or Youtube Prime)?Termine
